Gene Hal Hargrove

Gene Hal Hargrove, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Monday, August 23, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Gene was born February 25,1937 in Lubbock to Horace B. and Mary Elizabeth Powell Hargrove. He graduated from McMurry College with a Master of Education degree. Gene honorably served his country in the United States Naval Reserve. He married the love of his life Janet Faye Hall, July 11, 1959. Gene coached in the Texas towns of Cisco, Hamilton, Amarillo, Andrews and Azle. After leaving coaching, he went into school administration, first as Athletic Director in Azle, then as vice-principal in Azle High School, going on to Azle Elementary (the Rock School) as principal. He left the education field for a brief time, working in management for Taco Bueno, eventually returning to education as vice-principal for Lake Worth High School. When he retired from education, he was principal at Effie Morris Elementary School in Lake Worth. Following his retirement, he worked for Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department for 3 years. Gene enjoyed playing golf with his friends He was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Azle, being particularly instrumental in the planning of the Education Building and serving in several leadership positions. He was also a valued member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association and Harris Methodist NW Hospital Auxiliary. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Larry and Jim Survivors: His wife of 62 years, Janet Faye of Azle; sons, Brent and Randy of Azle; his daughter, Denise Hargrove; grandchildren, Sunni, Chase and Kensi Boenker and Jake and Emma Hargrove.
