Gary Richard White

Gary Richard White, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2024. 

A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Canyon House at Spirit Ranch, 701 Regis St., Lubbock, TX 79403. A light dinner will follow. 

The family requests memorials be made in the form of planting a tree, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, or your favorite charity supporting military veterans. 

Gary was born in Littlefield, Texas to Jesse and Carrie White on June 16, 1946. He graduated from Jackson High School, where he met the love of his life, Bryan Kay “Katie” DeLavan. After service to his country, they married on March 3, 1967, and had two daughters, Kay Lee, and Cynthia “Cyndee,” and went on to enjoy 57 years together. 

Gary lived most of his life in the Lubbock area, but also lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, New Mexico, and Idaho for brief periods, until he retired to Weatherford in 2016. Gary was a skilled tradesman. Throughout his life he worked as a ranch hand with racehorses, mechanic, grain tank construction, plumber, HVAC technician, and commercial property maintenance manager. He eventually started his own HVAC company in the 1990’s and operated that until his retirement. 

Gary loved being outdoors, especially in the mountains. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, country music, playing the guitar and writing music. Gary always enjoyed a good joke, telling stories, and had loving nicknames for everyone he met. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne and JR White; and three sisters, Frances Watson, Nell “Dugan” Calcote, and Elois “Tootsie” Dunlap. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Katie; daughters, Kay Lee Riley and husband, Cory, of Wolfforth, and Cyndee Oliver and husband, Peter, of Weatherford; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
