Eddie Eugene Bumpus

January 12, 1948 — November 26, 2020

Eddie Eugene Bumpus, 72, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020. Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 5, 2020 at White’s Azle Chapel. Eddie Eugene Bumpus was born in McAlester, OK to Maxine and Willie Bumpus. They moved to Texas in 1956 where Ed graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1966. Ed loved his family more than anything. His brother was always there for him through anything. They didn’t see each other very often through the years, but Ed knew Bill was there for him when there was a need. They had been enjoying more time together these last few years visiting the old homestead in Oklahoma and going to “Burk”. He was crazy about his kids and grandkids. They brought so much joy, and pain, and pride, and fear, and back to joy. Always back to joy and pride. Ed loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. In his earlier years he loved camping and boating and watching the Dallas Cowboys with his family In his middle years, he liked to party, work hard, ride his motorcycle and watch the Dallas Cowboys, and spend time with family. In his later years, he loved to work and ride his motorcycle. He still watched the Dallas Cowboys, but didn’t enjoy it so much. He loved to travel as long as it was on the motorcycle. He and his wife rode to California, Washington DC, Florida, Canada and many states in between. His favorite place to see was the Hoover dam. He loved traveling the back roads and eating at mom and pop cafes. He loved breakfast and ate breakfast for every meal that he could. He loved to work especially when he started working for Chuck Petrek. That man gave him his dream job. He LOVED working for that man. Chuck also gave him some land where Ed built his dream house. Sometimes Ed would look at his place from the street or would be pulling into the driveway, and he’d just stop and look and say “I can’t believe this is ours” Ed is survived by his wife, of 31 years: Paula Bumpus; sons, Michael Bumpus and wife, Cheryl, Brett Bumpus and his partner, Jenny; daughters: Lauralee Bumpus and Dawn Perney; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren with one more on the way due on his birthday. Ed had a wonderful life, doing what he wanted to do, when he wanted to do it, the way he wanted to do it.
