Durwood “Wayne” Bridges, 82, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2021 in the comfort of family in Weatherford, Texas. Wayne was born to Marzell Henley with step-father Clifford Bridges. Wayne was active in youth baseball and participated in the Little League World Series. Wayne played minor league baseball with an opportunity to play in the major leagues. He passed over his baseball career for a steady paycheck and an opportunity to serve his country. Wayne was a war-time Veteran serving honorably in the United States Navy. He frequently pointed out that his years in baseball taught him the value of team work but the Navy taught him the value of discipline, perseverance and hard work. Wayne married Barbara Ann, the love of his life, who preceded him in death. Wayne was a painting contractor and was fondly called “Painter Man” by his closest friends. Wayne enjoyed dancing and was President of the Katy Prairie Promenaders. He was an avid sports fan - The Texas Longhorns and The Dallas Cowboys, being his favorite teams. Wayne is survived by his loving daughters, Waynette Baker, and Kimberly Daley, as well as a host of grandchildren, Christine, Joel, Rachel, Colton, Brittney, Zachary, and Hailey, with their families including great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Brandon, Ryder, Carly, Declan, Finley and Ellie; his sister, Juanita and her family; and his most beloved cat, Oreo.
