Donald Wayne McCauley passed from this life on Thursday, February 11, 2021, in Weatherford, at the age of 87, while under the loving, compassionate care of the staff at Hilltop Park Rehabilitation and Care Center. Please designate the Corps of Cadets General Scholarship fund in memory of Donald W. McCauley '53. Donald was born on April 12, 1933 in Knott, Texas. His family moved to Liberator Village, a part of White Settlement, during WWII where his father was employed at the Convair bomber plant. Don graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1949, and then from Texas A&M College in 1953, with a degree in Civil Engineering. After commissioning in 1953 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base until his discharge in 1955. Don served in the Air Force Reserve until 1979, retiring with the rank of Major. After his active service ended in 1955, he was hired by the Texas Highway Department (now TXDOT), District 2, in Fort Worth as a highway engineer. Over the next 37 years he held various engineering and construction positions within the district and was responsible for the design and construction oversight of many interstate highway projects in Tarrant and Parker Counties. Don retired as the Weatherford Supervising Resident Engineer and District Construction Engineer, in 1992. After Don graduated from Texas A&M, he married the love of his life, Shirley Sue Osborn and they were married for 67 years. To this union were born three sons. After retirement, Don and Shirley loved traveling together in their motorhome with their travels taking them to all the lower 48 states, and all the Canadian provinces. They made many friends traveling over the years, and Don particularly enjoyed camping with his many friends from Weatherford and Fort Worth. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church, and had taught Sunday School classes for many years, at various churches during his lifetime. He also formerly volunteered for Parker County Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to residents in Springtown. He is preceded in death by his son, David McCauley; and parents, James and Mildred McCauley. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley McCauley of Weatherford; sons, Michael McCauley of Shawnee, OK, and Mark McCauley and his wife, Rene’, of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Melissa Stewart and husband, Kris, of Huber Heights, OH, and Katie McCauley, of Austin; great-granddaughters, Hayden, Makayla, and Ava Stewart. The family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Rehabilitation and Care Center for the wonderful, loving care they provided Don for the last four years. Shirley welcomes expressions of sympathy from friends through calls or cards sent to her in care of Hilltop Park, 970 Hilltop Dr., Weatherford, TX 76086.
