David Leroy Maurice

David Leroy Maurice, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 in Weatherford. No services are scheduled at this time. David was born February 10, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of David and LaVonne (Stone) Maurice. After graduating from high school, David joined the United States Air Force. He proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and later in the USAF Thunderbirds. Following his service in the Air Force, David traveled extensively working on prototype aircraft. His most memorable assignment was the ATF 23 as the Crew Chief of the #1 aircraft which is now in the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio. David also worked on the B-2 Bomber and most recently at the Fort Worth Naval Air Station on the F35 where he helped to develop the production line. David retired from Northrop Grumman Corporation in 2011. David was an avid outdoorsman and particularly enjoyed fishing and camping. He also enjoyed car racing - especially off-road racing and drag racing. David loved car building and he was very skilled at engine rebuilding. He was especially proud of the ’62 VW that he completely rebuilt from the ground up. He turned it into a show car that won several prestigious shows as “Best of Show”. David had many interests but his greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jo Maurice; daughter, Jennifer Maurice of Weatherford; son, David T. Maurice and wife, Christine, of Murrieta, California; granddaughters, Nicole Carroll and husband, Captain Joseph Carroll, US Army, of Killeen, Maxine Kingery, and RoryMae Kingery, both of Weatherford; great-grandchildren, Emory, Coralie, and Gavin, all of Killeen; father, David T. Maurice and wife, Nancy, of Temecula, California; sister, Linda Maurice of Temecula, California; several uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins; and many extended family members and dear friends.
