March 25, 1943 — April 8, 2022

David Worth Gilbert, 79, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 in Weatherford. Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at White’s Funeral Home. Graveside Inurnment: Date and time to be determined in Brock Cemetery, Brock. David Worth Gilbert was born March 25, 1943 to Clarence and Georgia Maddux Gilbert of Brock, Texas. David grew up in Brock, graduating from Brock High School in 1961 where he was very involved in the FFA program. Not surprisingly, he was voted Friendliest during his high school career. He married Rita Faye Hussong, of Poolville, Texas in 1967. They were married for 53 years and had two beautiful daughters, Tammy and Holly. David worked in the heat treating industry at first and was later employed at White’s Mines (which later became Vulcan Materials). He retired after working at the City of Weatherford as a heavy equipment operator in 2007. David was very involved with the Olive Branch Lodge #792. In 2021, he was honored for being a Master Mason for over 40 years of service. He also served as President of the Parker County Shrine club in 1988. David enjoyed barbecuing and fish frying for community events. The bigger the crowd the better! He also liked hunting, fishing and working in his shop. Back in the day, there was often a domino game going on at the kitchen table. You can bet he always knew what bone you were about to throw down! He was instrumental in getting the original Brock Volunteer Fire Department built and even served as Chief at one point. He served as President of the Brock-Dennis Community Center and was an intricate part of the it’s construction in the 90’s. In addition, he served as a Vice President of the Brock Cemetery committee. David enjoyed countless hours in his shop building and welding. Anybody who knew him knew they could stop in and visit for hours! He kept cold drinks and snacks in his shop for anyone to enjoy - especially his kids and grandkids! In his later years, he enjoyed shelling pecans and riding around on his gator keeping everybody in line! He shared his love of welding with his grandson Jacob as well as his gift for gab and knowing everything about everything. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Georgia Gilbert, many cousins, nephews and nieces. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rita Gilbert of Brock; daughters, Tammy Baskin of Brock, Holly Gilbert of Dallas (Robert Plummer); bonus son, Richard McCullough and wife, Stephanie, of Brock; grandchildren Jacob Worth Baskin of Brock, Kennedy and Kade McCullough of Brock; former son-in-law Phil Baskin, of Dennis; and many extended family members. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and the community for years to come and he will be greatly missed by all.
