Curtis was born on August 28, 1943, in Ft. Worth, Texas.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Elam, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage; his daughters, Krystal Hutchins and her husband, Jake, and Cheryl O’Pry and her husband, Jason; six grandchildren, Levi Burcham and his wife, Jess; Riley Alfaro O’Pry and her husband, Nestor; Julia O’Pry, Kaylee O’Pry, Simon Kruckner, and Javan Kruckner; one treasured great-granddaughter, Saphira Burcham; his brother, Ricky Elam; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and his wife, Margaret Elam, and Loma Gene and her husband, Ollie Bright; his brother, Dennis Elam; and his infant daughter, Melissa Lynn Elam.
He was the heart of his family, and the one everyone turned to for wisdom, comfort, and help at any hour. He was happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved most, sharing good food, laughter, and a card game with his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa.” Curtis was a devoted member and deacon of Gracepointe Baptist Church (formerly La Junta Baptist Church). He faithfully served wherever there was a need, from handling maintenance and repairs to ministering to church members during times of illness. Well into his later years, Curtis could still be found mowing the church lawn and the lawns of many friends and family members, serving others in this quiet, steadfast way.
Curtis worked as a Master Electrician for over 50 years, earning the respect and trust of the entire community. Even after retiring, friends and neighbors continued to seek his guidance, valuing both his expertise and his integrity. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, carrying the sense of duty and honor throughout his life.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his unwavering love for his family, his servant’s heart, and the quiet way he reflected Christ to everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family he so dearly loved.
