September 13, 1944 — March 21, 2024

Charles Stephen "Steve" Ross, age 79, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. The family will honor Steve’s memory at his home in Azle, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Friends and family are encouraged to share their memories on Steve’s Facebook page. Steve was born in Macon, Georgia, son of Wilbur L. Ross and Louise W. Ross. He graduated from Willingham High School and continued at Middle Georgia College. Steve served his country as a military policeman in the Army from 1966 to 1968. Steve's high energy and restless spirit led him to work in New York City and to make homes with his family throughout the Southeast in Atlanta, Wake Forest, Austin and Azle,Texas where he retired. His employment included Western Electric, HNTB, Baer Consulting, Delta Airport Consultants, and Holt Consulting Co. LLC. Steve was an avid car enthusiast who put his mechanical skills to work on hot rods in his teens and later on sports cars, from the E-type Jaguar to the Alfa Romeo. His penchant for style marked his appearance as a sharp-dressed man. “Do it yourself” was Steve’s mantra for car repairs, his kids’ school projects and home improvement. He built model cars and trains in his teens and continued with intricate landscapes and buildings for model railroads with his sons. He recently designed and oversaw the construction of a custom garage, a tasteful addition to his home. His lifelong love of music ranged from early blues and rock ’n roll to country music, especially the Texas stylings of his adopted home state. If you received one of his custom music recordings, you knew you were counted among his closest friends and family. Most of all, Steve valued his friends and stayed in touch with them over the years and across the miles. A tireless talker, he could entertain you into the night with stories from years ago or yesterday in vivid detail! He is pre-deceased by his wife, Beatriz Rios Ross; and sister, Charlene (Ward) Vanderhoff. Steve is survived by his daughter. Allison (Joe) Thomas; sons, Zachary (Veronica), and Patrick; granddaughter, Madison Thomas; and sister, Cheryl Lee (Larry McDowell).
