Charles William Lewis, Jr.

Charles William Lewis, Jr., 92, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 in Decatur. Inurnment: 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, Fort Bayard National Cemetery, 200 Cam De Paz, Fort Bayard, New Mexico. Charles was born March 27, 1931, in Walters, Oklahoma; son of Charles William Lewis, Sr. and Thresia (Hoing) Lewis. He attended college at the New Mexico State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, (N.M. State University), in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His vocation in life was an adjustor for an insurance company. Charles proudly and bravely served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer, and had a zest for life. In addition, he had a heart of service. During his younger years, he enjoyed helping those less fortunate through delivering Meals on Wheels. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one daughter. Survivors include his children, Buddy Lewis and Thresia Chambers (Dallas); grandchildren, Patrick Charles Lewis and Grey Robert Debrall; sister, Sally Zachek; and a host of extended family members and friends.
