Carrol was born on September 5, 1937, in Annetta, Texas, to Preston Vieo Wehunt and Pearl Moore Wehunt. He grew up during the Great Depression in the Annetta, Weatherford, and Aledo areas and shared a small one-room home with his parents, brother, and sister. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1955. After graduating, he ran away to Oklahoma to get married to Charlotte.

As a young man, Carrol had a passion for cars. He loved working on them, driving hot rods, and making memories with his brother. His daughters fondly recall an old photograph of the two of them standing next to a car, looking like James Dean, along with a collection of traffic tickets for excessive vehicle noise and speed that still bring smiles today. On weekend nights you could find the family at Pearl and Preston’s, listening to J.D. on guitar and Carrol Ray playing bass guitar. J.D., Margaret, Carrol Ray, and Charlotte enjoyed many trips to Panther Hall in Fort Worth on Saturday nights for music and dancing.

Carrol enjoyed taking family road trips to visit his brother in Oklahoma, explore the mountains of Colorado, see the sights of Las Vegas, and travel the country. No matter where the journey took him, he was always happiest when he made it back home. He especially loved going to the lake, camping, and spending time outdoors, though absolutely hated cold weather. He only flew twice in his life, both trips to visit his daughter in California, where they enjoyed driving along the beautiful Pacific Coast.

Later in life, Carrol became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Weatherford, where he found a welcoming community. He was a kind, genuine man who was loved by everyone who knew him.

Carrol was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Vieo and Pearl Wehunt; his son, Alan Ray Wehunt; his grandson, Preston George Wehunt; his brother, James Doyle Wehunt; and his sister, Bonnie Sue Wehunt.

He is survived by his daughters, Terri Wehunt, and Lori Wehunt; his grandchildren, Melody Johnson and husband, Clay, Christopher Wehunt and wife, Tanya, and Caleb Wehunt; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Carrol will be remembered for his love of family, his adventurous spirit, his appreciation for the outdoors, and the joy he brought to those around him. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
