Carolynn Sue “Suzy” Henson

Services for Carolynn Sue “Suzy” Henson, 83, of Lubbock will be at 11:00 a.m. on January 23, 2026 at Second Baptist Church in Lubbock under the direction of White’s Funeral Home of Weatherford, TX.

She passed Thursday, December 4, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Suzy was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 27, 1942. She grew up outside of Orange, Texas in a small community called Little Cypress. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964 (at that time Texas Technological College) with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She married John W. Henson in December 1964 and moved to Pensacola, Florida where he was stationed at Saufley Field, and later moved to Alameda, California where he was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station. They eventually moved back to Lubbock where Suzy began working at Texas Tech as the Director of Operating Policies and Procedures. In 1997 she completed her Master’s degree. She retired from Texas Tech in 2002.

Suzy loved to sing, and through the years she sang with the Lubbock Civic Chorale and the choir at Second Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. She loved her cats, and all animals, often taking in a stray that needed a home (and love). She loved gardening and could be found working in her yard on most days. She was also the best mother to her children. We were truly blessed to have had a mother so loving and kind. There was never any doubt how much we were loved by her, and she will be missed terribly.

Suzy was preceded in death by her parents, Wells and Dolores; her ex-husband, John W. Henson; and her son, John Wright Henson.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Henson; her brother, Wells Wright; sister-in-law, Charlene Wright; niece, Molly Wright; nephews, Aaron and Ben Wright; and daughter-in-law, Rebekah Boyce Henson.
