Carolyn Ann Bump Lackey, 68, passed away peacefully at home, in the arms of her devoted husband, Jim (James) Lackey, surrounded by family, on Monday, May 4, 2026. She bravely battled cancer with the same steadfast determination & strength she displayed in life.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Lake Victor Church of Christ.
Inurnment: Cauble Cemetery, at Cauble-Sunny Lane, Lake Victor, Texas.
Gathering of family & friends after the service: Hosted by Tony & Susan Minton at 1491 County Rd. 109, Burnet, Texas.
Carolyn was born January 26, 1958, at the Victorville AFB in California to Frances and Eugene Bump. She attended Grapevine High School. She met the love of her life, Jim Lackey while working at University Computing Company (UCC) in Dallas in 1978. They were married on May 24, 1980. They spent 46 years together raising their two sons in Grapevine Texas, and Warrenville, Illinois.
Carolyn was very supportive of her son’s academics and sports. In Grapevine, she volunteered for their school PTA and was involved in the new school playground project for all children to enjoy. Later, she took pride in working at Wheaton North High School in the Registers Office. Carolyn loved having the family together and made all the gatherings feel special. The highlight of the summer was always the July 4th parties she hosted at their Warrenville home. She was rarely found without a book that she was reading. Carolyn was very creative and enjoyed various arts & crafts throughout the years. She took pride in making special birthday cakes for her granddaughter throughout the years. Her green thumb in the garden with her flowers & plants was unmatched. In 2020 she & Jim returned to their home state of Texas residing in Weatherford briefly before making their home in Poolville, Texas.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, Francis & Eugene Bump; sister, Christine Bump; brother, Charles Bump; father-in-law, James Lackey; brother-in-law, Danny Lackey; sister-in-law, Cindi Lackey; nieces, Amber Covington & Kimberley Lackey; nephews, Sprint Haynes & Jeremy Lackey; and aunt, Wilma Mays.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; sons, Chris Lackey (Christiane), and Dustin Lackey; daughter, Kira Powell; grandson, Hunter Collins; granddaughter, Kaleigh Frebrandt-Lackey; sisters, Cynthia Bump, Cathy Bump, & Chanda Price (Jamey); mother-in-law, Geraldine Lackey; sister-in-law, Mary Sarver (Jack); brother-in-law, Don Lackey (Elissa Haas); aunts, Wanda Harrgarth, and Wanda Raimonde; uncle, Bill Mays; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
Flowers can be sent to their home, 3000 Hermosa Drive, Poolville, Texas 76487, or directly to the church.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society.
