Carol pursued her education at Grove City College in her hometown of Grove City, Pennsylvania. There she studied accounting and graduated in 1963—a foundation that would serve her well throughout her professional life. In 1988, she relocated to Texas and began a new chapter in the roofing industry. Starting as an office manager, Carol’s dedication and expertise propelled her to the role of Corporate Inventory Control Specialist for SPEC Roofing Corporation. In this position, she oversaw operations across more than 25 stores throughout the Southeast United States. Her leadership earned her numerous accolades from both colleagues and customers who valued her precision, professionalism, and unwavering commitment.
Beyond her career accomplishments, Carol was a woman of many passions and talents. She found joy in gardening and knitting, often creating beautiful spaces. An adventurous soul at heart, she loved traveling and had a special connection to Hawaii—where she once sailed with the women’s sailing club known as the Wet Hens and explored the ocean depths as an avid scuba diver.
Carol also had a playful side; she delighted in practical jokes and brought laughter wherever she went. A devoted amateur radio operator and an enthusiastic NASCAR fan—especially of Jeff Gordon—she embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. Her love for family was evident in the thoughtful cards she sent for every holiday without fail—a tradition that brought smiles year-round.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Hood; daughters, Dee Ryley, Nadine Pearish, and Natalie Hauck; sister, Sandy VanDyke; and thirteen cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zella and Otis Farren.
Carol’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, humor, and love. She was admired deeply by those fortunate enough to know her—and she will be sorely missed.
May her memory bring comfort to all who carry it forward.
