Carol Ann Barnes

September 13, 1931 — September 17, 2021

Carol Funel Barnes, aka Mimi, passed away on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, in Weatherford, TX. Carol was born on Sept. 13, 1931, in Donaldsonville, LA. to Cora Madeline Chauvin and Arthur Phillip Funel. She was raised in Metairie and New Orleans, LA. She attended St. Catherine of Sienna grade school and Sacred Heart High School. After graduation, Carol attended Rabouin to study art. Later, while raising two daughters in Baton Rouge, she attended LSU, majoring in Art. Carol worked as an administrative assistant for the Mid-Winter Sports Association (Sugar Bowl) and later the American Sugar Cane League from which she retired. Carol loved painting, travel, reading, especially English history, Thomas Jefferson, and holiday parties, especially Halloween. Most of all, Mimi loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Barnes Gonzales (Betsy) and husband, Stephen, of Austin, TX, and Brenda Barnes Byrd and husband, Kenneth of Weatherford, TX. MIMI adored her three grandchildren, Nicole Gonzales Baird and husband, Stephen, Justin Byrd and wife, Sonya, Daniel Tyler Byrd and wife, Shayla. She was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to Logan Olivia Byrd and Andi Leigh Byrd. Carol’s wit, sarcasm, kindness, compassion, and generosity will be missed by her family and friends. Due to Covid, a celebration of Carol’s life will be held later. Please contact Betsy at: betsygonzales79@gmail.com or Brenda at: untmarinemom@yahoo.com to be notified of the date and time.
