Burl Magee passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Burl was born on December 1, 1940, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Blondean and Burl Magee.
Burl graduated from Eunice High School in Eunice, NM, and attended Hardin Simmons University. He married Carol (Smith) and had two sons, Corey and Todd. Burl joined the U.S. Army and retired as a Lieutenant Coronel in 1988. He served in Vietnam, and around the world, earning a Silver Star, Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal of Valor, and a number of other citations for meritorious service and bravery.
Burl went on to have a second career helping to educate and train students at the New Mexico Military Institute. He was revered by his ROTC students and helped many gain appointments to the United States Military Academy (West Point). He and his high school sweetheart, Sherry (McLean), met again, and married in 1991.
After retirement, Burl and Sherry moved to Weatherford, Texas where he was a very active member of First Methodist Church of Weatherford. He loved his Trinity Sunday School class, and the Men’s group who were known for playing some mean games of 42.
