Billie Rae Schulze Hanley, 100, passed away on August 17, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 5, 1925, in Bangs, Texas, to John Henry Schulze and Esther Faye Heffington Schulze, was raised there, and graduated from Bangs High School.
Billie met her husband in high school in Bangs, and before he entered the United States Navy, Billie and Boyd began dating. During his time in service, Billie faithfully wrote letters to him, and their relationship grew stronger after his return home. They were married in Granbury, Texas, on December 10, 1948, and shared 38 years together until Boyd’s passing.
After Boyd became ill, the family moved to Fort Worth for a few years and made it to Aledo in 1960. Soon afterward, Billie went to work at General Dynamics, where she faithfully served for 34 years. Though she always considered being a homemaker her greatest calling, she worked hard to help provide for and care for her husband and family. Billie and Boyd raised their children in Aledo, where they all graduated from Aledo High School.
Faith was the foundation of Billie’s life. She was a devoted member of the Aledo Church of Christ for more than 60 years and gave countless hours of service to her church family. She took great pride in organizing the teachers’ workroom and was known for her exceptional organization and willingness to help others. Her family is proud of the example of faith, service, and dedication she leaves behind.
Billie was also a talented quilter and was active for many years in the Fort Worth Quilters Guild. She lovingly made quilts for each of her eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, creating treasured gifts that will remain in her family for generations.
Those who knew Billie remember her as one of the sweetest people they ever met. She was steady, kind, and a constant source of support for her family. She loved cooking and was especially known for her pecan, chocolate, and coconut cream pies. At church gatherings, people often lined up for her desserts even before getting their meal.
After retirement, Billie enjoyed traveling with friends and seeing the world. Her journeys took her to England, Ireland, China, the Panama Canal, and many other places. She delighted in experiencing God’s creation and treasured the memories she made along the way.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Charles Boyd Hanley; her parents; her sister, Gay Nell Lambert and her husband, Top; and her brother, John Schulze Jr. and his wife, Margie.
She is survived by her son, Doyle Hanley; son, Charles Hanley and wife Cindy; daughter, Sue Curran and husband Fred; grandchildren, John Hanley and wife Mende, Julie Bullion and husband Casey, Tanner Hanley and husband Steven McWilliams, Jason Hancock and wife Kim, Chad Hanley and wife Jenny, Preston Hanley and wife Emleigh, Ashley Wilcoxson and husband Lake, Abby Schiefelbein and husband Rudy; great-grandchildren, Ryder Hanley, Fynn Hanley, Maddison Bullion, Bryce Bullion, McKynsie Hancock, Rylan Hancock, Caden Hanley, Madeline Rae Hanley, Lainey Jo Hanley, Collins Hanley, Callyn Hanley, Adleigh Hanley, Audrey Hanley, Tripp Wilcoxson, Payne Wilcoxson, Hanley Wilcoxson, Shepp Schiefelbein, Bowen Schiefelbein, and Ella Schiefelbein; Nieces Jackie Goen, and Glo Hayes and husband Joe; and nephew Stan Lambert and wife Debbie.
Billie leaves behind a loving family and many dear friends who will cherish her memory and continue the legacy of faith, family, service, and love that she established throughout her remarkable life.
