Box 212, Millsap, TX 76066. Betty was born September 21, 1932 in Sherman, daughter of Arthur Leonard and Callie Ann (Newton) Brown. She grew up in Sherman where she met her first husband, Glynn Ferguson. They made their home in Abilene, where they had two children, Glenda Ann and Larry Joe. After this marriage came to a close, she met Harlin Jones, when her car broke down at the café at the Brazos River Bridge on Highway 80. Harlin helped her to get repairs on her car. This chance meeting blossomed into her marrying him and he would be her loving husband until he went home to be with the Lord in 1999. Harlin had two children, Ronnie and Sandra. Along with Betty and Harlin’s child, Donna, this wonderfully blended family made their home in rural Parker County, Texas. Betty was employed by The Barrier Corporation for seven years in Mineral Wells where they made plastic plants. She then went to Millsap ISD as a cook in the cafeteria in 1971 where she helped serve meals to multitudes of children until she retired in 1988 to take over the care of her mother, Callie Brown. She cared for her for ten years until her passing and then continued to care for various others in our community. She joined Soda Springs Baptist Church in 1967 and made that her church home until her passing. She dearly loved her church family. There she spent many joyous days serving the Lord. Music was a big part of her service at Soda Springs. She was part of a quartet that included her husband, Harlin, and Jim and Thalta Broom. Betty was the Sunday School teacher for the children for many years and then followed that by serving as the adult Sunday School teacher. She spent countless hours working on VBS, decorating the sanctuary and fellowship hall, organizing Christmas programs, and was a faithful Christian friend, prayer warrior, and servant of the Lord. There is no greater title than to be called a Servant of the Lord. Betty joined the Millsap Neighborhood Home and Garden Club in 1988 where she enjoyed spending time with her friends to help in their efforts to serve the town and school district of Millsap. She held a variety of offices during her active membership days. She had been awarded Outstanding Clubwoman and Woman of the Year. Betty loved to crochet and make beautiful craft items. Many have been blessed by her gifts of handmade specialties and creations. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harlin Jones. She is survived by her sister, Billie Paschall of Arvada, CO; children, Donna Parker of Millsap, Glenda Richardson of Stephenville, Larry Ferguson of Stephenville, and Sandra Maddux along with her husband, Alton, of Millsap; grandchildren, Greg, Spencer, Sierra, Tami, Michael, John, Steven, Mark, Heather, Jennifer, and Ronnie; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
