Born October 9, 1932 to Lloyd and Nettie (Duncan) Cherry and raised in Rockwall, Texas, Betty was proud of her roots and loved to share that she was a Rockwall cheerleader — a title that reflected her lifelong spirit, enthusiasm, and joy for life.

Betty lived a full and beautiful life devoted to caring for those she loved most — her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family were at the heart of everything she did. Her title of Nanny was how she was affectionately known to family and friends.

She worked for Mitchell Energy for over ten years and later served as a school librarian, where her love of learning and her gentle, encouraging nature touched many. Though she found joy and fulfillment in her work, her favorite and most cherished role was caring for her family — a job she embraced with love, patience, and pride.

A woman of creativity and adventure, Betty was an active member of the Red Hat Club and a talented artist who enjoyed painting and showcasing her work at local art shows.

She also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Boliver, whose companionship brought her endless happiness.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Baker Lee Conger, her son, Bruce, her brother, James Lloyd Cherry, and her sister Wynell Cockrell.

Betty is survived by her daughter Becky Wygant and husband Jim; son Bob Conger and wife Judi; son Brad Conger and wife Diane; and son Brady Conger and wife Robin. She is also survived by her brother Larry Cherry and wife Gerry. She was a proud grandmother to Kristen and Jeremy Gregory, Steven and Rachel Ross, Stacy and Cory Herring, Bobby Lee and Kasie Conger, Crystal Conger, Dustin and Ashley Smalley,Stacy and Blake Manning, Jacob and Pam Conger, Daniel and Amber Conger, Tye Conger, and Mindy Conger. She was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride.

Betty’s legacy of love, laughter, and creativity will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
