Benny Rae Poggensee

February 9, 1946 — May 11, 2023

Benny Rae Poggensee, 77, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 following complications from surgery. Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Benny was born in Chappell, Nebraska in 1946 to his parents, Alfred Poggensee and Irene Nelson Poggensee. While growing up, Benny learned that he had a passion for fixing automobiles. He took this passion into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as a mechanic for his whole four-year deployment during the Vietnam conflict. Before joining the Army, he met the love of his life, Barbara Lynn Chandler, at his brother's mechanic shop. The two married in 1969 and loved each other here on Earth until Barbara's departure to heaven in 2019. Benny worked as an Auto Body Repairman his whole life. He loved fixing cars. In 1973, he and his wife Barbara, along with their two young sons, David and Daniel, moved to San Diego, California. Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Southern California, along with the high cost of living, they all decided to move to Fort Worth, Texas in 1983. Though there were tough times, Benny always provided for his family and was an amazing example of what it meant to be a man. Benny was loved by many and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be sorely missed until we see him again in heaven. Benny is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; all of his brothers and sisters except for one; and his mother and father. He is survived by his brother, Dennis Poggensee of Denver, Colorado; his oldest son, David Ray Poggensee and his wife, Rebecca, of Burleson, Texas; his youngest son, Daniel Scott Poggensee of McKinney, Texas; and two grandsons, Chandler Ray Poggensee, and Caden Reed Poggensee.
