Barbara Joyce Blue Del Rio was born on June 20, 1946 in Ranger, Texas to Troy W. Blue and Marie Handy Blue. Barbara’s childhood carried her to many places, but Mingus, Texas was always “home” because that’s where her Granny and Grandpa Blue and all of her Blue family lived. Her second favorite place was the coast, more specifically Port Arthur, Texas. It was there that Barbara met and married the love of her life, V.E. Del Rio, in 1963.
Barbara’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She devoted her entire life to raising her daughters and instilling in them the priority and importance of family. She was a homemaker until her girls were in school. From that time on, she began working in the schools her girls attended. She always wanted to be available for her girls and ensure that she was always their mother first. After retiring as a cafeteria manager from MWISD, Barbara enjoyed volunteering alongside her husband in the Mineral Wells community and spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren.
A few years after her husband’s passing, her feisty, adventurous spirit sent her on a new life path. After 45 years in the same house, she moved to her own “granny flat” beside her youngest daughter, Kay, in Scurry, TX. Barbara spent her last years surrounded by her family. She loved playing in the dirt, planting and propagating flowers, and traveling to College Station to spend time with her oldest daughter, Rebecca, her grandkids, and her great-grandkids.
Barbara took immense pleasure in gardening. She loved to pinch off a little piece of a plant, no matter where, and add it to her flower gardens. Gardening was her gift and she could turn any patch of dirt into a beautiful English Garden in one growing season. In the winter months she loved to cook, sew, and make crafts. The more glittery and shiny the craft the more she loved it. She also spent countless hours, in every season, visiting with her grandkids via phone, dispensing her own wisdom and humor, and building the next generation of strong family values.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of loved ones who will miss her dearly and treasure her memory always: Her daughters Rebecca Borski (David) and Kay Cason (Eric); grandchildren, Christina Walker (Cody), Thomas Borski (Jenni), Tanner Cason (Carolee), and Tara Cason; great-grandchildren Benjamin Walker, Luke Walker, Nova Borski, and Zara Borski.
Barbara always had a soft spot for animals and to honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CARE Animal Rescue, PO Box 353, Mingus, TX 76463.
