Edward Price Day

Edward Price Day, 79, went to be with our Lord and his family and friends February 27, 2017 at his home. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 26th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1313 S. E. Parkway, Azle, TX 76020. His interment took place under the direction of White’s Azle Funeral Home on March 10, 2017 at Ash Creek Cemetery next to his wife, Janet and their son, Geoff. Edward was born December 29, 1937 in Adrian, Michigan to Price Edward and Alma Marie Reed Day. He graduated from Addison High School in 1955 and attended Michigan State University until 1957. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War until 1959 and returned to MSU to continue his studies. On March 25, 1960 he married the love of his life, Janet Lee Witcher at Somerset Congregational Church. Ed graduated with a B. S. in Accounting in March 1961. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He enjoyed traveling, RV camping, watching Michigan State Spartans (football and basketball) and NASCAR, snowmobiling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Mexican food. Ed and Janet moved back to Michigan from California and established Day Construction in 1968. He built single-family homes at Lake Somerset and in 1973, he moved his family to Tecumseh while building homes in Clinton. Ed was an active member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton Rotary, Lenawee County, Michigan and National Association of Home Builders. He was President of each Association while operating Day Construction. Ed coordinated with First Housing Corporation from 1980-1982 on his dream of building Maple Village, a senior citizen high-rise and family townhome community in Adrian. He and Janet relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1984 and founded Georgia Housing Group. They remolded and built single-family homes in Alpharetta, Roswell and Cumming. They launched Craftsmen Builders in 1991 and built log homes in Ellijay until his retirement in 2006. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Ellijay prior to relocating to Texas. He was also an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Azle. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet (Jann); sister, Erma Day; son, Geoffrey Day; and brothers, Ralph and Denver; son-in-law, J. J. Guidry; and nephew, Lance Day . Survivors: Daughter, Kathleen “Kitty” Day-Guidry; granddaughter, Sarah Marie Guidry of Butte, Montana; four nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
