ALEDO -- On September 30, 2015, Gerald passed away from complications after several strokes over the last few years. He was visited and comforted by family at Santa Fe Health and Rehab in Weatherford, Texas at the time of his death. He was 74 years old.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gloria Velazquez Andrews; daughters, Cynthia, Melissa and her husband, Elias Perez; sister, Betty Sue Andrews Hutchison; brother, Connie and his wife, Betty; and a large family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The son of Mildred Christie and James Delford Andrews of Magnolia, Arkansas, Gerald excelled at tennis and won state championships in high school. In college he received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas. After graduating, he served his country for six years with the Air Force National Guard and continued service working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He took great pride in his work that helped build our nation's infrastructure. Following the Iraq War he volunteered to rebuild the Kuwaiti airport.
Gerald's hobbies included fixing classic cars, golfing, and watching sports. He gifted his daughters with classic 1973 Mustang convertibles, seen in parades and throughout town. Often known as “Red Dog” on the golf course, Gerald golfed from sunrise to sunset for years and long after doctors told him that he wouldn't golf again. He was a faithful sports fan supporting the Aledo Bearcats and watched football, baseball and golf for hours.
A memorial service will be held at White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, on Monday, October 5th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Aledo AdvoCats, an organization in Aledo that provides a helping hand to youth that need medical and basic need support.
