WEATHERFORD -- Dr. Howard Wayne Young, 95, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in Weatherford. Graveside service: 2:15 p.m. Friday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, The Young family suggests contributions in Howard's memory to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174-0001. Howard Wayne Young was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Brookesmith, son of the late Thomas and Pearl Reno Young. A true outdoorsman, Dr. Young loved all things outdoors especially golfing, hunting and fishing. On October 9, 1942, he began active duty in the U.S. Army Air Corps and became a fighter pilot flying 67 combat missions in Tunisia, Sicily, Rome and Arno. Dr. Young was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After the war, Howard attended Southern School of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. and began his career as an optometrist. He moved to Killeen where he practiced optometry for about 30 years as well as being active in the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Young; his parents; brother; and three sisters. Survivors: Sons, H. Scott Young and wife, Viki, of Granbury, Greg Young and wife, Sylvia, of Weatherford, and Charles Warren Young of Austin; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; two step-children, Louann and Sonny; and a host of loving family and friends around Texas and Oklahoma.White's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
