Jerry Newberry, age 81, died February 11 in Dallas, Texas from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, a Parkinson"s-related neurodegenerative disease. Jerry is survived by her sister, Joyce Hayes Gertz of Los Angeles, California; her children, Lee Newberry Jones and husband Bryan, of Dallas; Bill Newberry and wife Kathy, of Rosenberg, Texas; and Jay Newberry and husband Alberto Curotto of San Francisco, California; and her three grandsons, Peter, Patrick and Philip Jones of Dallas. Jerry also is survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Anne Newberry Bergman and Robert D. "Bob" Bergman of Weatherford; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. "Bill" Newberry of Weatherford.Jerry was born August 19, 1931 in Mineral Wells, Texas to J.C. and Georgiamae Hayes, but grew up and spent most of her adult life in Weatherford. Jerry graduated from Weatherford High School in 1949 and attended the University of Texas at Austin before marrying Bill in June, 1951. Her ambition as a young woman was to be a wife and mother and to create a loving home. In addition to that vocation she served God and her community in many ways. Hers was a quiet but strong faith rooted in love and service.Jerry was active in civic affairs, serving as an elections judge; member, Friends of the Weatherford Public Library; and on Cleanscape. Jerry also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Manna Storehouse, and as a reading volunteer in the Weatherford Public Schools. Jerry was a member of Grace-First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, where she taught Sunday school, was active in Women of the Church, served as a Deacon, Elder, and moderator of the Pastoral Search Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Ministry of Grace Presbytery.Jerry"s family thanks and honors those who aided us in this final journey: Yolanda Parks and the staff of Loving Care; the staff of Silverado Turtle Creek and Silverado Hospice; and the Revs. Ben Dorr and Susan Systma Bratt. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15 at Grace-First Presbyterian Church, Weatherford, Texas. A reception at the church will follow. The family requests that you honor Jerry not with flowers but with donations to one of the following organizations: Presbyterian Children"s Homes and Services; Manna Storehouse, Inc; or the Lewy Body Dementia Association."Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
