Peggy Jorene Newby Peden, 81, of Fort Worth went to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Friday at Altamesa Church of Christ, 4600 Altamesa Blvd., Fort Worth. Interment: 1 p.m. in Springtown Cemetery. There will be no viewing, as requested by the deceased. Memorials: Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers. However, flowers may be sent to the church. Jorene was born in Paradise to Gertie Rhoten Newby and Cody Newby. Jorene and her sister, Janell, grew up on the family farm until the family moved to Fort Worth in 1937. She was a 1949 graduate of Polytechnic High School. She attended the University of North Texas, majoring in biology. Jorene married Jerry Peden in 1950. They were married for 27 years and had two children. Jorene began her career as a secretary for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad and retired from the Union Pacific as an operations manager. She participated in the Railway Business Women's organization and she was an active member of Altamesa Church of Christ. Mother's four passions in her retirement years were watching her granddaughter, Kara Beth, grow into a fine young woman, crafting and molding her house into her home. Next she enjoyed helping those who needed assistance through the later years of their life, and last but not least she enjoyed running around with all of her girlfriends on road trips, to lunch or the lake. Survivors: Jorene is survived by her son, Bret Peden; daughter, Annette Boyd; granddaughter, Kara Beth Boyd; niece, Judy McDonald; nephew, Gary McDonald; brother-in-law, Michael Peden; and several nephews and cousins.
