Vernell Bates

Vernell "Nell" Bates, 81, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Service: 1:00 P.M. Friday at Azle Church of Christ. Interment: Azleland Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Azle Church of Christ. Nell was born August 15, 1931 in Fluvanna to the late Morris and Docia Huling. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ attending her last years at the Azle Church of Christ. Nell loved working in her yard, gardening, fishing, quilting and playing dominos. She enjoyed cooking and hosting friends and family in her home. Nell will be greatly missed by all who knew her beautiful smile and generous heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Bates in 2009; eight brothers and sisters; and one grandson, Clayton King. Survivors: Son, Dwain Bates and wife, Kim of Azle; daughters, Lana Willingham and Kathy Cleveland and husband, Dale all of Azle; grandchildren, Malissa Hermann, Angela Pitts, Lance Bates, Jason Bates, Jarrod Cleveland, Chris Willingham and Colton Cleveland; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.
