Emma Ruth Cooksey

WEATHERFORD -- Emma Ruth Cooksey, 93, of Weatherford, died Thursday morning, September 5, 2013, in Weatherford. Service for Emma Ruth Cooksey is 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, at First Baptist Church, in Weatherford, under the direction of White's Funeral Home. Ministers Bill Warren and Howell Simmons will officiate. Graveside service will follow at approximately 12 noon at Laurel Land Memorial Park, in Fort Worth with Minister Bill Warren officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Street, in Weatherford. Memorials have been setup with the City of Weatherford Parks Department as well as the Weatherford Education Foundation. Emma Ruth Cooksey was born May 30, 1920, in Grandfield, Oklahoma the daughter of Florence and Fred Gill. She married Dick Cooksey on February 24, 1940, living in Fort Worth the majority of their life together. He preceded her in death June 21, 1992. Ruth then moved back to Weatherford to be near her family and friends. She was a Christian and loved Jesus with her whole heart. Her life was a testimony that with God, all things are possible. She faced every situation in her life through the lenses of faith, hope, and love. And subsequently, taught anyone she knew, the same. She was loved by so many including all children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth epitomized what Paul encouraged the Philippians to attain in Philippians 2:1-5, "So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus." Serving was so important to her. One of her most remarkable achievements was her service in volunteer work at Harris Hospital, in Fort Worth, as well as Weatherford Regional, in Weatherford. She achieved a life-long total of 30,000 hours of service between the two. She desired to bring peace, hope, and laughter to families and patients and considered it a joy to bless them with her time and work. Outside of serving in the hospitals, Ruth had a passion for painting, bookkeeping, and working in her yard. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Weatherford and had also been a longstanding member at South Wayside Baptist, in Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Cooksey; her daughter, Judy Robinson; brother, Fred Gill; and sister, Glenna Moore. Ruth is survived by her son, David Cooksey, and wife, Linda, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Tisha Beaird and husband, Larry, of Weatherford; Eric Robinson, and wife, Janet, of Donnelly, ID, Brady Robinson, and wife, JJ, of Denison, and Kyle Cooksey, and wife, Laura, of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Emma and Jake Beaird, of Weatherford, Austin, Caleb, and Luke of Donnelly, ID, and Violet and Lily of Denison.White's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
