FORT WORTH -- Wayne Simpkins, 82, loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of White Settlement, 7801 White Settlement Road, White Settlement. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, Weatherford. Visitation: 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in Wayne's memory to the American Cancer Society, 3301 West Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, 817-737-9990. Benjamin Wayne Simpkins was born June 6, 1931, to the late Benjamin Urb and Addie Gertrude Leggett Simpkins in Mineral Wells. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Plumlee, on Jan. 16, 1953, and they recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together. After graduation from high school, Wayne joined the United States Army. He proudly and honorably served his country in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Upon discharge, Wayne attended Weatherford College and then worked for Bell Helicopter, retiring after many years of service. Wayne was very creative and made several things without patterns and with primitive tools. He was a member of the American Legion and First Baptist Church of White Settlement. The family wishes to thank Mission Hospice for their attentive and dedicated care, especially Jay, Kandra and Tammy. They also want to thank the staff of Broadway Plaza for their kindness and care. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: His beloved wife of 60 years, Evelyn Simpkins of Fort Worth; daughter, Cynthia Cox and husband, Howard, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Amy Lindsey and husband, Alan, of Houston and Dustin Cox and wife, Alicia, of Arlington; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Ava and Jackson; aunt, Hazel Schwartz of Plainview; several cousins; and a host of loving family, church family and loving friends.
