WEATHERFORD -- Brooksie Bonita "Nita" Taylor Simpson was welcomed into eternal life on Monday, June 16, 2014. Her spirit is carried on by her children, grandchildren, and many extended family members and life-long friends. Born on April 19, 1925, in Electra, TX, to the late Anice Richards Taylor and RL "Burt" Taylor, Nita was one of four children. Her brothers, Mickey Joe Taylor and Aaron Taylor, and sister and best friend, Bonnie Taylor Martin, along with a very special brother-in-law, O. E. "Junior" Martin, all preceded her in death. On September 15, 1943, Nita married the love of her life, Paul Lewis Simpson, Sr. Though Nita was widowed after 10 years of marriage, she and Paul were blessed with four children, Paul Lewis Simpson, Jr., Martha Simpson Lewis, Jo Simpson Johns and Debbie Simpson Swearingin. Later in life when her children married, Nita's family grew with three loving son-in-laws, Bubba Swearingin, Craig Lewis and Clay Johns, and devoted daughter-in-law, Kathy Simpson. Widowed with four children, Nita lived everyday of her life for her family and loved ones, and was always sharing stories about "granddaddy" with her grandchildren. Preceeded in death by grandson, Byron Simpson, Nita was survived by seven grandchildren and five grandson-in-laws: Nicole Swearingin (John) McGuire, Danielle Swearingin (Chuck) Felts, Taylor Swearingin (Robert) Hall, Paula Simpson (Mike) Vidaurri, Cassy Simpson Snetzer, Heather Simpson (Brad) Friermood, and Sara Simpson. Through the blessings of her grandchildren and their loving spouses, Nita is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Nita graduated from Weatherford High School in 1943, with the honor of Melon Vine Queen. She was the third of six generations of All Saints Anglican Church of Weatherford, where she was a member for 60 years and served as the most senior member of the church at the time of her death. She was a former member of the Weatherford Quilt Guild. One of Nita's most humble honors was serving as a model for renowned portrait artist, Douglas Chandor. Nita earned her living working at JC Penney of Weatherford, where she made many dear friends and retired from after 25 years. Though she was a presence of grace and strength to all who knew her, Nita saw her children and grandchildren as her greatest gift and her legacy. Known for her beautiful yard and her delicious cooking, she found pure joy in showing off her landscape projects and baking for loved ones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in All Saints Anglican Church of Weatherford, 125 S. Waco St., with Father Eric Vowles presiding; burial will follow at East Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nita's honor to the Historic Chandor Gardens or All Saints Anglican Church of Weatherford. Memorials may be sent to: Chandor Gardens, 711 West Lee Street, Weatherford, TX 76086 or All Saints Anglican Church, 125 South Waco Street, Weatherford, TX 76086. See her standing there, like steel, with her roots forever buried, deep in her Southern soil." - Nancy B. BrewerWhite's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
