Mark Alan Thompson

FORT WORTH -- Mark A. Thompson was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 4, 1962, and passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. His legacy will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was passionate about writing, sports, music and his family. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, 76086. Mark was an accomplished, award-winning writer who began his career in Texas with the El Campo-Leader News before moving to the Weatherford Democrat. After the Weatherford Democrat, he worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Then for the past 10 years, he worked for the Quarter Horse News in Fort Worth as the co-editor/journalist. A graduate of Indiana State, Mark served as editor of his college paper, The Indiana Statesman, where he will forever be remembered for an article he penned, "Charlie Chair," following the infamous Bobby Knight chair-throwing incident that appeared in several newspapers in his native state. An avid, lifelong Indiana Pacers fan, Mark counted his interview with then rookie Michael Jordan as a career highlight for years. He was the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, most recently for being the top writer of online articles by American Horse Publications. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edith and Eugene Thompson, Veronica Woosley Leisure Corn and Clayton Woosley; father, Mike Thompson; and brother, Gary Thompson.
