ARLINGTON -- Samuel Curlett Howarth Jr., 84, of Arlington, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, July 11, 2014. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: 2:15 p.m. with full military honors in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Please ask for a contribution card to be sent so that we can appropriately thank those who donate. He was born in Clifton Heights, Pa., the son of the late Samuel Curlett and Milly Howarth. Sam (known by many as Nunny) moved with his family from Pennsylvania to Lewes, Del. in 1936 and graduated from Lewes High School in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army that same year and was stationed in Korea with the Army Security Agency during the Korean War. Sam served his country honorably for 20+ years before retiring as a first sergeant in 1968. He then worked for the United States Postal Service in Ft. Hood and Killeen from 1970 until retiring from that agency in 1990. Sam and his wife Bobbie then moved to Weatherford in 1993 before finally settling in Arlington in 2008. Sam was an active member of the Army Security Agency Super Group and regularly participated in the organization's reunions. He was also a past member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes, Del. Sam enjoyed traveling, softball, golf, bowling, and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was lovingly known to everyone as Pop Pop. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Evelyn Howarth on June 2, 2014; and his sister, Marjorie Bakke. Survivors: He is survived by his son, Alan and wife, Kathy Gibbs, of New Braunfels; his daughter, Cathy and husband, Melvin Jones, of Mansfield; his son, Samuel C. Howarth III (Sam/Buddy) and wife, Terri, of Pharr; his sister, Beverly McCarty of Lewes; his brother, Clifford Howarth of Seaford; his sister, Sharon Walsh of Lewes; his grandchildren, Tiffany Gulledge, Heather Jones, Brandon Jones, Samuel Howarth IV (Quade), Dustin Howarth, Brian Howarth, Dr. Larry Gibbs, Cassie Clarke, and Nikki Gibbs; his great-grandsons, Tripp Gulledge and Nicholas Gibbs; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog and cat, Squirt and Kitty.White's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
