Mary L. Loan Blankenship, a resident of Lakewell Place in Mineral Wells, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 after a short illness.Services will be conducted on Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Garner Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. Family visitation will be 30 minutes prior to services at the church.Internment will be in Ballew Springs Cemetery.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Garner Baptist Church building fund. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Mary was born in Garner, TX on July 26, 1924. Although born and raised in this area, she traveled extensively accompanying her military husband, who served in the United States Navy during and after World War II.She was married to Torbet Wayne Blankenship in a union that lasted for nearly 65 years. They returned to this area in 1963 following Wayne's retirement from the military. Mary was employed for more that 40 years as a licensed vocational nurse working in the Campbell Hospital and in the Palo Pinto General Hospital. Nursing for Mary was not only a profession, it was her vocation and she truly loved helping people. Mary was a member of the Garner Baptist Church for more that 70 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Jake Loan and Dura Davis Loan; her husband, Torbet Wayne Blankenship; sisters, Lula Mae Loan Pope and Jonnie Sue Loan Skeen; son, Michael Wayne Blankenship; and daughter, Susan Rene Blankenship Whetstone,Survivors include daughters, Mary C. Blankenship Tallas (John), and Rise L. Blankenship Imbody (Philip); she was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
