WEATHERFORD -- Pearly Roena Oliver Collins was born December 22, 1922, in Mansfield. She died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2014, surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. Her funeral service was held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 under the direction of White's Funeral Home, Weatherford. Pearly married William Russell Collins at the ripe age of 16 on August 28, 1939. Together they had five children, Betty Roena, William Russell, James Robert, Carol Ann and Glenda Sue. They worked together in ministry from Texas to Kansas, from Kansas to Nebraska, from Nebraska to South Carolina, from South Carolina back to Texas - home. After retiring from pastoring, they moved to Weatherford, where they lived on the Texas Church of God Campgrounds. Roena, as he lovingly called her, remained in Weatherford until she moved to Kingwood in 2003. Pearly felt her highest calling in life was to be the best wife, mother to her children, and servant of God. Her husband could count on her to be alongside him visiting the sick and shut-ins, putting roofs on buildings, washing the car, mowing the lawn, making thousands of fried pies and melt-in-your-mouth donuts, working in the garden, then putting up the vegetables. One time they had a "chicken-killing" day. Not only did Mom help Dad, but he put all the children to work - dunking a headless chicken in hot water and plucking the feathers out. They rented space in a freezer downtown Fairberry, Nebraska to put those dead chickens into. We will miss her on earth, but will someday join with her and other loved ones in heaven. Pearly Roena Collins was preceded in death by her husband, W. R. Collins; her son, Ted; son-in-law, Garry Meek; and granddaughter, Rebecca Collins. She is survived by her children, Betty Hastings and husband, Jerry, James Robert Collins and wife, Lynn, Carol Parten and husband, Edward, Glenda Sue Meek; daughter-in-law, Scottie Collins, wife of deceased son, William Russell (Ted) Collins; brother, Marvin Oliver and wife, Ann; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
