WEATHERFORD -- Bennie Sewell Barnett, 88, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 100 Spring Creek Road, Weatherford, 76087. Interment: East Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the James and Bennie Barnett College Scholarship Fund, Weatherford College Foundation, 225 College Park Dr., Weatherford, 76086. Bennie S. Barnett was born August 28, 1926 in Wood County, daughter of the late John and Mattie Sewell. She graduated Abilene High School in 1943. Bennie attended North Texas State University in Denton, where she received her BA and MA Degrees in Education and where she met her future husband, James. Mrs. Barnett began her accomplished 31 year teaching career in Oklaunion and continued in Knott, Millsap, and Weatherford. She taught in elementary, middle and high school. Mrs. Barnett served as Director of Home Economics Cooperative Education at Weatherford Independent School District until her retirement in 1982. Mrs. Barnett was actively involved in various educational and service organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas State Teacher's Association, Texas Retired Teacher's Association, Eastern Star, and Fort Worth Power Squadron. She was a committed member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church. Survivors: Sons, James Barnett, Jr. and wife, Victoria, of Weatherford, and John Barnett and wife, Lisa, of Gordonville; grandchildren, Staci, J.T.
