WEATHERFORD -- Alda Birt "Birtie" Howard, 92, died October 12, 2014 in Weatherford. Services: 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main St., Weatherford. Interment: East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation: 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Memorials: The family requests that donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association. Birtie was born October 10, 1922 in Chattanooga, Okla. Her family was soon drawn to East Texas where she grew up in the midst of the development of the great East Texas Oilfield. In the 50's, the family lived in San Angelo. In the early 60's, Birtie and her late husband, T. J. Howard, built and operated Wedgewood Garage in Fort Worth for about a decade. After retiring to the country, they raised cattle and ostrich in Erath County and Parker County until T.J.'s death in 1994. Birtie did Girl Scout work while raising three daughters in San Angelo and provided volunteer labor at the Texas Pythian Home in Weatherford in the 2000's. Church membership has been an important part of her life. Membership included First Christian in San Angelo, Ridglea Christian in Fort Worth, First Christian in Stephenville, and Central Christian in Weatherford. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry P. Whaley and Bertha J. Prigmore Moore; husband, T. J. Howard; sisters, Erma Whaley Byrd, and Athale Whaley Thomas; brother, J.D. Whaley; and half-brother, Robert Joe Whaley. She is survived by her husband, Floyd H. Montgomery of Weatherford; daughters, Theresa Howard Davis and husband, Charles, of Fort Worth, Jane Howard Maserang and husband, Sam, of Hico, and Erma Howard Templeton and husband, Wayne of Weatherford; six grandchildren, Shani Maserang Williams of Glen Rose, Shelly Earp Baity of Denver, Colo., Audra Maserang Newman of Hico, Tony Mancil of Fort Worth, Andrea Earp Owen of Springtown, Kevan Davis of Jersey City, NJ; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws, many living in the North Central Texas area.White's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
