Alicia M Zapata passed away on Dec. 12 in Azle. Memorial service: 6:30 P.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Azle on Dec. 22nd. Inurnment 10:00 A.M. December 23 at DFW National Cemetery in Grand Prairie.Alicia was born January 4, 1927 in Los Ebanos, TX to the late Lucrecio Flores, Sr. and late Guadalupe Flores. Alicia was the oldest of nine children. She married her husband, Ruben D. Zapata, in 1948. They lived in Houston until 1954 when they returned to South TX to settle in McAllen. Together they raised 3 children. She graduated from La Joya HS. While in Houston, she completed a Secretarial Course of Study at Elliott Business College in 1949. She got her bachelor"s degree in education from Pan American University (now University of Texas-Pan American). She taught for many years in various schools districts in South Texas. Even after retiring, she frequently substitute-taught. She enjoyed all types of crafting pursuits. She retired in 1983 and she and her husband moved to "the farm" in Mission. They lived there until they moved back to McAllen in 1995. In 2008, they moved to Crowley"s St. Francis Village. In 2010, they moved to Azle. She spent her last four years in the care of Azle Manor.They enjoyed traveling. They took their children on vacation almost every summer. As retirees, they took trips to Italy and the Holy Land and various cruises. Of course, the trips to see their kids and grandkids were frequent.She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 63 years, and three brothers, Jose Flores, Lucrecio Flores Jr., and Antonio Flores. She is survived by sisters, Guadalupe LeCount, Consuelo Hindsley and husband, Wayne, and Edna Motes and husband, Loyd; brother, Gustavo Flores and wife, Guadalupe, and Carlos Flores and wife, Margarita; she is also survived by her son, Andy Zapata and wife, Genny of Azle; her daughter, Nora Z. Montez and husband, Fernando of Sunland Park, N.M.; her son, Vito Zapata and wife, Karen of Houston; one granddaughter, seven grandsons, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson and a step great-granddaughter.
