Dudley Kenwood Simmons, 84, a lifelong resident of Springtown, was called home to the Lord on Dec. 30, 2014. He passed away peacefully with family at bedside. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Friday in Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 401 N. Main St., Springtown, TX. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Springtown or the Springtown-Goshen Cemetery Association. Dudley was born September 10, 1930 in Springtown. He served in the United States Navy and was in the Marshall Islands when the first hydrogen bomb was dropped. He retired from the civil service after working at Carswell Air Force Base, and Fort Walters. Dudley has been a Master Mason of the Eureka Lodge No. 371 in Springtown. He and wife, Peggy, were charter members of the Springtown Revolvers square dance club. They have been faithful lifetime members of the Springtown United Methodist Church. Dudley was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Gilliland Simmons and parents, Jack and Rosie Simmons. Survivors: Children, Sharon Simmons and wife, Karen Drew, Dianne Smith and husband, Alf Smith all from Springtown; grandchildren Zachary Peterson and his fianc", Kristina Graves of Springtown and Jennifer Peterson of Denton; one great grandson, Kolton Peterson of Springtown; brother, Jack Simmons, Jr. and wife, Sonnie; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
