WEATHERFORD -- Vaudean (Deanie) Hambright Smith Eades, 87, died Friday at home in Weatherford. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: Long Creek Cemetery, Hood County. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Deanie's name to Meals on Wheels of Weatherford. She was born January 21, 1927, in Tolar, the only child of Sam and Margaret Hambright. The family moved to Granbury and she went through school there, graduating in 1944. Deanie was married Feb. 10, 1945, to Walter Harold Smith while he was still in the U.S. Army. They settled in Fort Worth after the war where Harold worked for the U.S. Post Office. Sons, Tracey and Gaylen were born there. The family moved in 1954 to Corpus Christi. Son, Page was born there in 1958. All the boys went through school in Corpus Christi. The family was active at Travis Baptist Church and in little league baseball. Deanie was secretary for six years of the Gulf Coast Little League, worked for accountants during tax seasons and had permanent positions at the University of Corpus Christi and Continental Oil Co. After Harold retired in 1978 they moved back home to Weatherford. They attended First Baptist Church of Weatherford and were charter members of the Sensational Senior Singers, a local choir. Harold died in 2004. Later that year, Deanie was honored as Ms. Senior Parker County. On Nov. 24, 2006, she married former Granbury High School classmate, Naulon (Al) Eades. They lived in Weatherford and Yuma, Arizona, traveling extensively in their motorhome. They visited Al's previous home in Seattle and visited Branson, Missouri on several occasions until Deanie's failing health kept them at home. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Harold; and son Gaylen, who died in 1972. Survivors include husband, Al Eades; sons, Tracey and wife, Mary, and Page and wife, Tina, all of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Nichole and Tanya Smith of Big Rapids, Mich.; four step-grandchildren, Winn and Garold LaRue of Fort Worth, Amy Phinney of Dallas and Erin Pozzi of Durango, Colo. and stepson, Guy Eades of Salt Lake City, Utah; and many loving family members and friends.
