WEATHERFORD -- William Frank Nuss Jr., 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. Memorial service: To be held at a later date. Frank was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Fort Worth, to the late William Frank and Ollie Mae Thomason Nuss Sr. He graduated from Paschal High School and attended Texas A&M and then graduated from Texas Christian University, majoring in math and chemistry. Frank honorably served in the United States Navy in World War II. Upon discharge in 1945, he married Betty Switzer, whom he had met in the chemistry lab at TCU. They lived in Tulsa, Okla., and Lubbock, where he worked for Stanolind Oil and Gas Company as a petroleum engineer. Returning to Fort Worth, he worked as an independent oil man until the oil industry slowed down. With his uncle from California, he established a number of Sizzler Steak Houses in Texas. Frank's last venture was to purchase Stuart Nursery in Weatherford "for his wife" who loved gardening. This was passed on to their daughter and son-in-law. Following his son's interest, he took up scuba diving in the 1960s and enjoyed many diving trips everywhere from Belize to Tahiti. Frank's last adventure was to be the first man in his family to reach age 90, which he did in 2012, thanks in part to Holland Lake Nursing Home.
