WEATHERFORD -- Hershel Dalton, 98, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, in Weatherford. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Weatherford. Interment: East Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Joseph Hershel Dalton was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Authon, the third youngest of nine children to the late R.L. and Mary Bailey Dalton. Beginning in the early 1940s, he owned and operated Dalton's Grocery for many years in several locations in Weatherford. In 1962, Hershel began building homes, a career that would take throughout much of the remainder of his life. He liked to play dominoes but especially loved to read his Bible. Hershel was a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford for more than 20 years. Hershel was preceded in death by his wives, Mae Dalton in 1960 and Lois Dalton in 2009; and six siblings. Survivors: Son, Bobby Dalton and wife, Marlene, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Karen Dalton of Phoenix, Ariz., Kathy Dalton of Hudson Oaks, and Bryan Dalton of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Timothy, Joe and Erin; sisters, Opal Bowden of Weatherford and Hazel Coalson of Millsap; family friend, Gail Blair; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.White's Funeral HomeWeatherford, 817-596-4811
