BEDFORD -- Lynn Cardwell, 85, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, surrounded by family in Bedford. Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1802 Bethel Road, Weatherford. Father John Casey will officiate. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Lynn Brooks Cardwell was born Feb. 6, 1927, the third of six children to the late William Kendall and Varina Smith Cardwell, in Louisville, Ky. Lynn married the former LaVerne Searcy in Louisville, Ky. on June 20, 1964, and they began their life together. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and made his career with the United States Postal Service. Lynn retired from postal service after many years of dedicated service in Pasadena, Calif. and moved to Texas in 1988. He was an avid coin and stamp collector and loved to camp and travel with LaVerne. Lynn was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Lynn was preceded in death by a son, Steve Newkirk; a grandson, John Cardwell; his parents; brother; and four sisters. Survivors: Wife, LaVerne Cardwell; children, Sandra Sims, Richard Cardwell, Vicki Cardwell, Patte Marling, Terri Cardwell, Cathie Mollenhoff, Terri Thorne, Cyndi Herron, and Kevin Newkirk; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
