Walter B. Hammond

SPRINGTOWN -- Walter B. "Preacher" Hammond, 83, the rock of our family, left this world Tuesday, March 27, 2012, to be with his Lord and Savior. Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Friday in Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: Immediately following the service in the youth building at Hilltop Family Church. Memorials: At Walter's request, please do not send flowers. Instead, honor his wishes by making a contribution in his memory to Hilltop Family Church, 1227 Cottondale Road, P.O. Box 530, Springtown, Texas 76082 or a charity of your choice. Walter B. Hammond was born Sept. 29, 1928, son of the late Jackson and Cora Whitehead Hammond, in Lake, Miss. He was a loyal servant and elder at Hilltop Family Church in Springtown. He loved everyone and was loved by all. His heartfelt goodbye was always "Have a good day in the Lord." Walter loved to watch out the window at the deer and turkeys in his yard and also loved gospel music. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: Walter is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Hammond; son, Michael Hammond; daughter, Anita Hammond; sister, Elizabeth Frances; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving church family and friends.
