Lucy Opal Hagood

d. January 4, 2012

Opal Hagood, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2011 in Azle. Graveside Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7 at Azleland Memorial Park. Opal was born in Terrell, Texas on January 15, 1918 to Charles and Ruby May Smith. She received a degree from the Southwest Adventist College in Keene. In 1940 she was married to Ernie Hagood and moved to Los Angeles, California to be near her husband while he was in the United States Navy. On October 19,1942, she had her only daughter, Barbara June, who was the love of her life. The family moved back to Terrell and lived there until they moved to Dallas where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Azle. While in Dallas, she worked for the U.S.O. for many years and the Republic National Bank until her retirement. However, she did not retire; she began raising Shetland Sheep Dogs "Shelties" which she loved. She had 44 at one time and took care of them all by herself. The Shelties were her family after Barbara moved out and she treated them like her children. They all had names and she knew all of them. Opal always had a smile on her face, was always cheerful and had something funny to say. She never met a stranger and always had good things to say about people. She was a ray of sunlight to everyone. Opal was a longtime member of the Dallas Seventh Day Adventist Church. She will be missed by all that knew her. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Vada Kenneth, Ruth Foster; and her daughter, Barbara June Allred. Survivors: Son-in-law, Scott Allred and wife, Billie Jo; cousins, Ann Evans and husband, Tommy, Janie Taylor; brother-in-law, Ray Kenneth; and many many friends.
