Mavis Ellen Austfjord Edie

May 2, 1943 — January 2, 2012

Mavis Ellyn Austfjord-Edie passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at her home peacefully. She left this world for the next as she had always wished she would. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at her home in Mineral Wells for local friends and family. Following the family reunion in Cavalier, ND/Mountain/Icelandic Festival, burial will be in Cavalier, ND. She was so happy to have helped to start the family reunions over four years ago. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local food bank or shelter, as charity starts at home. Daughter Stacie Budde, 717 Saddle Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76108, is receiving the cards for the family. Mavis was born to the late Eggert "Ed" and Olga Anderson Austfjord of Cavalier, N.D. She grew up with her late brother, John "Manny," and his late wife, Janet Austfjord of Cavalier, sister, Cleo Bruers of Torrance, Calif., and little sister, Carolyn and husband, Pat Abel, of Owensboro, K.Y. Mavis lived in North Dakota, Illinois, California and finally Texas during her (HaHa) 27 1/2 years. She worked very hard to raise her five children and help where she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her crazy ways and travel. She loved to bowl and travel and mixed the two often. Mavis retired from nursing late in 2010, but continued to work as needed until late spring 2011 before she started her summer of travel. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mineral Wells, a Pythian Sister of Mineral Well, member of USBC bowling league and finally American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Mavis stressed the importance of education and hard work to get what you want. But, most importantly, she stressed living for today and planning for the future. Time and loved ones are here and now. Survivors: Soulmate, Y. Felix Bowley; son, Merrill and wife, Stacie Geiger of Kingston, Wash.; daughter, Alonna and husband, Maurice Tate, of Lancaster, Calif.; daughter, Carolyn Morris and partner, Tony, of Ohio, Ill.; daughter, Stacie Budde and wife, Tommie, of Fort Worth; son, Frank J.
