Jimmie Lee Doggett

Jimmie Wilcox Doggett passed away at a local healthcare facility on December 10, 2011. Visitation was Monday, December 12, 2011 at White's Funeral Home. She was buried Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in the East Greenwood Cemetery at a graveside service between her husband and beloved son, Robert.Mrs. Doggett was born on February 17, 1923, to Corbie and Bessie (Goodman) Wilcox at her grandparents' home in Mart, Texas. She lived with her maternal grandparents during her early years to attend school, but returned each summer to her parent's remote farm established in 1890 in Mills County. Mrs. Doggett was the oldest of nine children.Jimmie married Noble Elroy Doggett on July 1, 1939. The Doggett family moved to Weatherford in 1955 after years of following construction jobs. In Weatherford, Mrs. Doggett ensured her seven children were actively involved at North Side Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Doggett served as James Bowie Elementary School's PTA President and was continuously motivated in fund raisers and school activities. Education was stressed to her children as she provided private tutoring to various students of all ages.Jimmie Doggett strived to instill self-assurance to each child by proving goals could be accomplished through hard work. She remodeled her beloved home countless times, reupholstered furniture, sewed for her family, and constantly created hand craft items for birthday and Christmas gifts.Her first job outside her home was for the Palace Theater. As the youngest child, Robert, matured, she began working at Beall's Department Store. She taught herself to type, accompanied with her natural understanding of math skills; she became the Credit Manager for Sears and later Western Auto until her retirement.Mrs. Doggett became interested in genealogy and traveled extensively with her sister to obtain background histories which allowed her to trace the Wilcox family to 970 A.D. and the Doggett family to 1636 A.D. She never tired from visiting and researching old cemeteries.On her 83rd birthday, she presented her children and grandchildren with a lengthy story of her memoirs and the Ahnentafel, or table of ancestors, for the Wilcox and Doggett families. The information she gathered, assembled, and proved with appropriate documentations will be cherished for future generations.Mrs. Doggett traveled extensively, including a memorable trip to the Holy Lands with the church and remained active with her countless friends and church until September 2004, when she suffered a massive stroke. She fought to recover most of her facilities and was able to continue to live alone until her back surgery in April 2006. After her rehabilitation period, her children cared for her at home until she entered a local long-term healthcare facility in February 2008, three days after her 85th birthday was celebrated with her immediate family and several siblings. Family gatherings continued in her home for her and the family to celebrate holidays and birthdays.Jimmy Doggett shall always be remembered as a strong willed, self-taught, intelligent, loving, and caring individual. She left this world with countless memories for her remaining close family: Elroy (Sylvia), Edwin, Joyce (Jimmy Kitching), Larry (Dianne), Sue (Loyd Gouge), and Bonnie (Jack Bailey). Seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive their cherished Nannie, as well as, her remaining siblings, Bessie, Billie, Rita and James Edward.She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble, who died in September 1982, and her youngest son, Robert Earl, who died on February 21, 1976, at North Side Coliseum Rodeo. Also preceding Mrs. Doggett were her parents, two brothers, Charles and Curtis, and two sisters, Barbara and Mary (Dude).In lieu of flowers, acts of condolences for the family are suggested to be forwarded to
