Truman Edward Chandler, 94, of Weatherford went to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Family and friends are invited to join his family in a celebration of his life, during visitation at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 10, 2011. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., October 11, 2011 at the South Main Church of Christ. Burial will follow at East Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford. Truman was born September 4, 1917 in Poolville to Scobe and Ellie Chandler, and was a graduate of Peaster High School. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a ground crewman in the Army Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Truman worked for Williamson-Dickey after the war before joining his dad as co-owner of a grocery store on the Ft. Worth Hwy. from 1950 to 1957. He built and operated his own miniature golf course at night during the summers for many years while working as a salesman for Darby Wholesale. In his latter years he became an employee of Wes-Tex Vending Co. from which he retired in 1982. He was a longtime member of the South Main Church of Christ and was very active for many years in the Weatherford area playing in music groups at the Chamber of Commerce, Peach Festival, and Senior Citizen homes. He played for benefits, anniversaries, Parker County's 100th birthday party and the opening of the K.O.R.C. radio station in the Parker Hotel. Truman was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Alma Williams Chandler, his second wife of 12 years, Mildred Cotton Chandler, his parents, Scobe and Ellie Chandler, his brother Earnest Chandler, and his sister Dortha Swafford. Many have been left behind to cherish his memory. There are two sons, Terry Chandler and his wife Marsha of Paradise, Texas and Don Chandler and his wife Cynthia of Papillion, Nebraska. He also leaves behind 2 stepsons, Bill Cotton and wife Nancy of Willow Park; and Mike Cotton and wife Angela of Burleson. Surviving grandchildren left to cherish his memory are Jeff Chandler, Lindsay Chandler, Chris Chandler and wife Gloria, Crystal Dougherty and husband Curtis, Mike Cotton and wife Elisha, Jennifer Edwards and husband Mike, Jeff Cotton and wife Carrie, Susan Cunningham and husband Rex, Paul Cotton and wife Holy, Kelly Orsak and husband Tim, Kevin Cotton, Melissa Thompson and husband Michael, Nathan Biegenzah and wife Suzanne, Victoria Walston and husband Jeremy, 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, his special dog, Weiner and a host of friends. Great Grandchildren Tristen, Brenna and Eli have all said how much they will miss sitting in his lap and getting his great big hugs. He was loved by so many and he will be dearly missed.
