Stonewall Jackson Jr.

d. May 29, 2011

WEATHERFORD -- Stonewall Jackson Jr. passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Santo. Interment: Santo North Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home. Stonewall Jackson Jr. was born in Weatherford on May 12, 1925, and was the youngest of five siblings. His parents were Stonewall Jackson Sr. and Willie Houston Jackson. Stonewall served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was sent to the South Pacific region. He returned home and attended Weatherford Junior College, where he met his future bride, Monteen Gilbert of Santo. They married in 1949 and operated a service station in Weatherford for several years. In the mid-1950s, they relocated to Santo, where they operated Jackson's Grocery & Market for almost 50 years. They also had farming and ranching interests in association with Monteen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Deal Gilbert of Santo. Stonewall and Monteen were active Christians and belonged to First Baptist Church of Santo for many years. Stonewall and Monteen were blessed with two daughters, Sylvia Jackson Reeves of Wylie and Diana Kidweiler of Santo. Sadly, Monteen passed away in 2004. Stonewall was a loving family member and was the last survivor among his brothers and sisters. While only an infant, he lost his father and was always grateful for the love and attention of his mother who had to raise the family on her own. He was particularly attached to his beloved older brother and Iwo Jima veteran, Jake Jackson of Weatherford. Jake passed away earlier this year. Stonewall loved sports and for several years was honored to serve as announcer for Santo High School football games. His family remembers the small grocery store in Santo with great fondness and wishes to express gratitude to all the many friends and supporters in the Santo area. Stonewall spent his final years at Holland Lake Nursing Home in Weatherford, and the family also wishes to express gratitude to all the caregivers and staff members for their outstanding service to Stonewall. Survivors: In addition to his daughters, Stonewall is survived by his grandchildren, Angelique Compton of Santo, Micah Hamilton of Santo, Misty Hamilton of Stephenville and Bill Reeves of Wylie; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brett Hamilton of Santo; and numerous nieces and nephews.White's Funeral Home Weatherford, 817-596-4811
