Gerald "Jerry" Dean Torell, 77, a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Azle with his loving family by his side. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Thursday in White's Azle Chapel, 105 Denver Trail, Azle. Officiated by Dr. G. Wesley Shotwell of Ash Creek Baptist Church. Interment: 2:00 P.M. Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at White's Azle Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ash Creek Baptist Church Building Fund,300 South Stewart, Azle, TX 76020. Jerry was born to Henry Valentine and Hilda Asbield Torell in Minneapolis, Minn. May 31, 1933. He was a member of the Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle, a long time member of the Honey Do Good Sam Travel Club. Jerry was also a longtime member of the Fort Worth Auto Auction Association, longtime business owner of D. C. Auto Sales II and a longtime member of the United States Air Force. Jerry joined the Air Force in 1954 and retired March 1, 1975 after 21 years of service. He served one tour in Vietnam. Jerry had a compassion for his pets, and buying and selling of used cars, loved to travel by pulling his fifth wheel all over the United States, his most popular spot was Red River, New Mexico. He loved to tell jokes and was an avid collector of everything. Jerry's trade mark was the wearing of his many jumpsuits and sporting a ball cap. He will be deeply missed by family and friends and his pets. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; sister, Marjorie; and step-son, Robert. The Torell family would like to thank the dedicated healthcare providers who showed him compassion and dignity his last week. Survivors: wife of 47 years, Gloria Pat Torell; sons, Luke Torell (Inge), Tom Torell, David Torell (Robbie); and stepson, Thomas E. Stewart (Mitscuo); brother, Bruce Torell(Mary Ellen); sister, Virginia Costello; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, many friends; and Gerald's Pets.
