D.M. Cox, 85, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord and to join Eloise, his wife of 62 years, on Monday, May 9, 2011, in Springtown. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Springtown, 500 N. Main Street, Springtown. Interment: Springtown Cemetery Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, 401 North Main Street, Springtown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Springtown. D.M. Cox was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Montague, Texas to Ellen and Luther Cox. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. Returning to Texas from duty in the South Pacific, he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Eloise Self, and they raised a family in White Settlement. After retiring from General Dynamics after 35 years, D.M. and Eloise moved to Springtown, where they became active at First Baptist Church, Springtown, with D.M. serving as deacon. He was celebrated for the wonderful fruit and vegetables he grew in his extensive garden and orchards, and he shared his bountiful produce with neighbors and sold it at the Fort Worth Farmer's Market. D.M. was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, all of whom he taught to drive using a farm tractor, to water ski and to ride horses. He was also known as "Coach Cox" to many Little League baseball and Pee Wee football players in White Settlement. He was preceded in death by his wife Eloise Cox; his parents, Ellen and Luther Cox, and his sister Velma White. Survivors: Son, Gary Cox and wife Erin; daughter, Connie Cox Nichols and husband, Dick Nichols; grandchildren, Andrea Nichols, Leslie and Mark Muhtadi, Kristi and Chris Smith, Paul Nichols, and Taryn Wetzel; great-grandchildren, Garrett Muhtadi and Landry Smith; brother Olen Cox; sister Jean McKee; many other family members, and countless friends.
